Movie premiere: The Savages

Wendy Savage (Laura Linney) is a struggling East Village playwright, who spends her days applying for grants, stealing office supplies, and dating her very married neighbor. Jon (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is an obsessive compulsive college professor writing obscure books on even more obscure subjects who still can’t commit to his girlfriend after four years.
They are forced to return home when their father Lenny Savage (Philip Bosco) goes off the deep end and his kids are the only ones who can help him. With Wendy and Jon living under one roof for the first time since they were kids, it's not too long before they start driving each other crazy.
Laura Linney earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for The Savages

Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

The fifth film installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, won't disappoint fans with its usual fast-paced story, great special effects, and—for teenage fans—its great-looking cast. Even with the much talked-about kiss between Harry and Cho Chang has got girls wringing their hankies in envy and despair, it promises to be enjoyable film all througout its two hour and 18 minutes running time (the shortest one in the series so far).
As opposed to the previous HP movies, this one requires a background of the story since it takes off from the point where Harry has announced that Voldemort has returned while the Ministry of Magic proves unwilling to listen to his warnings. Those unfamiliar with Harry and his world (yes, people who don't know Harry Potter do exist) might have some trouble catching up to the events being referenced in the movie.
For audiences in the Philippines, check out Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at the IMAX theater at SM Mall of Asia. There's a 3D sequencethat gives it that extra "wow" factor.
